Overview

When is the last time you thought about local taxes?

Local taxes are frequently overlooked, but it is very risky for a business to let them slide. Don’t be fooled at their perceived importance – complying with local taxes and home-rule authorities should be a priority for tax professionals.

Local tax laws and procedures often differ from state-level sales and use tax laws and procedures. In fact, many local jurisdictions have different exemptions, tax bases, and forms than those of the state. These differences increase the complexity of complying with local sales and use tax laws and administrative procedures.

Are you sure that you’re compliant with local sales and use tax laws? If not, you may have tax liabilities that you’re not aware of that this webinar will help you address.

Who should attend?

This webinar is intended for financial and operations personnel—including tax, general accounting, accounts payable, sales, tax technology, purchasing and credit—who deal with sales and use tax as part of their responsibilities. The course is also designed for general practitioners, with minimal to no experience.

About the Webinar

Local taxes are not always treated as a priority by tax departments. They may seem less important and just too troublesome. Since they are often (but not always) a low percent, they just don’t make the radar.

But diminishing their importance is a HUGE misunderstanding about local taxes.

More than that, most people haven’t learned optimal ways to quickly handle local taxes. It is difficult to accurately track sales and purchase data with the level of detail needed to properly administer local sales and use taxes.  Keeping up with local tax rate changes can be a daunting task for any tax professional – let alone one who manages many different duties.

However, local taxes are extremely important. In fact, , some states allow “home-rule” jurisdictions to impose different taxability rules than the state. That means you could THINK you are in compliance, but local taxes are taking precedent and changing things for you.

Businesses and those who work with sales and use tax will find that learning how to maintain compliance at the local level is a fun and unique challenge.
