Shane Ratigan is a manager with YETTER Tax and the Sales Tax Institute. He has spent a decade immersed in the fields of sales tax and value-added tax. He was an early contributor with automated solution provider Avalara where he curated legal content as well as help design compliance solutions. After Avalara, he spent over two years consulting on sales tax issues in a firm environment, mainly focused on nexus, product and service taxability, and exemptions analysis. Prior to taking his present position with YETTER Tax, he worked for a large multinational corporation focused on global sales tax and value-added tax automated compliance.
Shane shares his knowledge on sales tax related topics via live presentations, webinars, articles and blog posts. He has contributed to publications and websites, including AccountingWeb, Practical E-Commerce and CPA.com as well as various blogs and newsletters. He has presented live at Avalara’s annual Crush event, the Washington Society of CPAs, and the Summer Tax Institute at the University of California Davis, among others. He has instructed professional education on behalf of Avalara, Lorman Education Services, CPA Academy, and Stafford Publications.
Shane earned undergraduate diplomas in accounting and business administration from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He continued his studies at the Syracuse University College of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctorate. He completed his studies with an LL.M. in taxation at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle.
