Florida Enacts Tax Holiday for Hurricane Preparedness.

Florida Governor, Charlie Crist, signed into law a sales tax holiday from June 1 through June 12, 2007, for certain hurricane preparedness items. During this period, the following items will be exempt from Florida sales and use taxes: (1) portable self-powered light sources which cost $20 or less; (2) certain radios selling for $75 or less; (3) any tarpaulin or other flexible waterproof sheeting selling for $50 or less; (4) ground anchor systems or tie-down kits selling for $50 or less; (5) gas or diesel fuel tanks selling for $25 or less; (6) certain packaged batteries selling for $30 or less; (7) certain cell phone batteries or chargers; (8) non-electric food storage coolers selling for $30 or less; (9) portable generators used to provide light, communications, or preserve food in the event of a power outage selling for $1,000 or less; (10) storm shutter devices selling for $200 or less; (11) carbon monoxide detectors selling for $75 or less; (12) reusable ice selling for $10 or less; and (13) any single product consisting of two or more of the items listed above in the amount of $75 or less.
