This list can help guide your journey to confidence, continuous learning, proactive engagement, and building relationships to navigate the complexities of being a woman professional in sales tax.

  1. Don’t Be Intimidated: Sales tax can be complex, but don’t let that intimidate you. There are resources available to help you navigate it.
  1. Believe in Yourself: Don’t underestimate your capabilities, and don’t be afraid to pursue opportunities in sales tax or any other field. Speak up for what you want and be proactive in seeking knowledge and opportunities for growth.
  1. Continuous Learning: Sales tax laws and practices evolve constantly. Remain open to learning and adapting to changes.
  1. Educate Yourself: Take advantage of educational resources like classes, newsletters, blogs, and conferences to stay informed about sales tax and other business concepts.
  1. Connect with Others: Join professional organizations, attend conferences, and network with peers to gain support and insights from others in the field.
  1. Develop and Nurture Relationships: Build trust with members of state tax departments to make it easier to accomplish goals and advocate for yourself or your clients.
  1. Advocate for Sales Tax within Your Business: Ensure that sales tax obligations are not overlooked and advocate for addressing any issues that arise.
  1. Persistence and Kindness: Be persistent in seeking answers and solutions, but also be kind and respectful when interacting with tax department representatives.
  1. Embrace Failure as Learning: Don’t fear failure, but instead view it as a lesson to learn from and grow.
  1. Take it Step by Step: Sales tax can feel overwhelming, so approach it methodically, one step at a time, and seek guidance from mentors or communities like the sales tax nerd community.
