Maine Passes Act Removing Transaction Count From Economic Nexus Threshold

Maine Governor Janet Mills signed a bill on June 11, 2021 that will remove the transaction count threshold from the state’s economic nexus rules for remote sellers effective January 1, 2022. When the new threshold takes effect, the state’s standard for economic nexus will be $100,000 of gross sales of tangible personal property and taxable services in the current or previous calendar year. Maine follows in the footsteps of many other states who have eliminated their transaction thresholds in the years following Wayfair, including Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Iowa, Washington, and Wisconsin. (Maine H.P. 891)
