Chicago Personal Property Lease Transaction Tax Rate Increases in 2026

As of January 1, 2026, the rate for the Chicago Personal Property Lease Transaction (PPLT) rate is set to increase to 15% of receipts or charges for all leases including non-possessory leases for computers to manipulate data supplied by customers. The Chicago PPLT applies to businesses and individuals that are either lessors or lessees of personal property used in Chicago. The previous rate was 11%.

Taxpayers operating in Chicago will need to ensure they are correctly calculating and accruing this tax at the new rate unless they are exempt lessees. (City of Chicago Revenue Ordinance, Article II, Section 1, 3-32-030)
