Colorado Increases and Caps Vendor Allowance on Sales Tax

Effective for sales made on or after January 1, 2020, Colorado will increase the amount of its vendor allowance (the discount received by businesses for collecting sales and use tax on behalf of the state) from 3.33% to 4%. Also effective January 1, 2020, the vendor allowance is capped at $1000 per retailer per filing period. Prior to January 1, 2020, no cap applies. A retailer with multiple locations is treated as a single retailer for purposes of the vendor allowance, and the retailer is required to register all locations under one account with the Department of Revenue.
