Louisiana No Longer Mails Sales Tax Returns to Businesses, Effective January 2025

Beginning January 2025, The Louisiana Department of Revenue (DOR) will no longer print and mail copies of Louisiana state sales tax returns to businesses that are registered to collect and remit Louisiana sales tax.

Beginning January 2025, businesses have three methods to submit Louisiana state sales tax returns and payments:

  • File and pay electronically via the Louisiana Taxpayer Access Point online portal.
  • File and pay electronically via the Parish E-File online portal. Note that the Parish E-File portal permits the filing of multiple parish/city returns from one site.
  • Download and print a copy of the state sales tax return from the Louisiana DOR website and mail in the return with payment.

Taxpayers who previously relied on the state to mail them the Louisiana sales tax return form will need to use one of the above methods to file moving forward.

In its news release, the DOR stated that this change will save Louisiana taxpayers more than $100,000 per year in printing and mailing costs. (News Release, Louisiana Department of Revenue, January 8, 2025)
