Michigan Warns Taxpayers of Tax Application Scam

The Michigan Attorney General has issued a consumer alert warning taxpayers of a scam that involves a company offering sales tax application processing. An online company, Sales Tax Application Organization, claims that taxpayers can apply for state sales tax numbers for a fee and personal information. Per the consumer alert, reports indicate that no service will be provided and your money will be gone. The Attorney General reminds taxpayers that there are only three ways to register for sales tax in Michigan:

  • Online at the Michigan Treasury’s web portal
  • Submitting a form 518 by mail
  • Through the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board.
