Tennessee Bills Causes Delays in SST Conformity for Two Years

Bills were introduced in legislation which, if passed, would delay Tennessee’s compliance with the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement until July 1, 2009. Initially, Tennessee, an associate member of SST Governing Board, was scheduled to come into effect on July 1, 2007. However, if its conformity does not take into effect by December 31, 2007, it will give up its membership on the Board. Additionally, a separate bill pending in the House of Representatives, would delay the state’s SST conformity date until one year after the U.S. Congress permits states to tax catalog and Internet sales.
