Kelly R. Smith

Kelly R. Smith is the Director of Indirect Tax at Evolve Vacation Rental Network, a lodging marketplace facilitator headquartered in Denver, CO. With over 18 years of experience in both public accounting and the private sector, she has developed expertise in a variety of industries, including Leasing, Payment Processing, Retail, Food & Beverage, Telecom, and more. Kelly has successfully built indirect tax functions from the ground up, including at Evolve where she leads a strategically lean team across three verticals: operations, compliance, and audit.  

In 2020, Kelly was recognized as the Sales Tax Nerd of the Year by the Sales Tax Institute. She is also a current Sales Tax Institute faculty member. Additionally, Kelly proudly serves on Evolve’s DEIB Advisory Council, as well as the Kitsap County WA Lodging Tax Advisory Council. Known for her depth of knowledge and intricate expertise in the field of lodging taxes, Kelly is a sought-after speaker and industry thought leader.
