Ken Webster, JD, LLM
Ken has spent nearly 15 years helping businesses make sense of sales tax. As the Head of Research at Numeral, he is the expert that clients — including high-growth brands like Backcounty, Brex, and Eight Sleep — turn to when compliance questions get complicated, which is often.
Throughout his career, Ken has led tax research teams for major industry players, including TTR and Avalara. While at TTR, he spearheaded the team responsible for building a massive tax taxonomy of nearly 18,000 unique product codes. Over the years, he has conducted custom, specialized research for hundreds of companies to accurately tax complex goods and services across diverse sectors, ranging from construction and software to healthcare and banking. His tax expertise has guided strategies for global brands and enterprise leaders, including Target, Starbucks, and Humana.
Before dedicating his career to the intricacies of sales tax, Ken built a foundational background in law and public policy. He worked on Capitol Hill, serving as a staffer for both a U.S. Congressman and a U.S. Senator, and later practiced law as a prosecutor. Ken holds a Juris Doctor (JD) as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from Lewis & Clark Law School. He brings this rigorous legal training and advanced background in statutory interpretation to untangle the world’s most complex tax codes.
