Maryland Enacts Exemption for Hearing Aid Items

Effective July 1, 2020, Maryland has enacted a sales and use tax exemption for the following hearing aid items:

  • Custom earmolds for an artificial hearing device
  • Battery chargers for an artificial hearing device
  • Receivers for an artificial hearing device

Effective July 1, 2020, the legislation also repeals the sales and use tax exemption for replacement cords for artificial hearing devices, which were deemed obsolete by the state legislature. (Ch. 637 (H.B. 1326), Laws 2020)
