Texas to hold annual sales tax holiday.

Clothing and footwear under $100 will be exempt from sales tax in Texas from August 6-8, 2004. Consumers may also use lay-away plans to take advantage for the tax holiday. Accessories and items intended strictly for athletic use will not be included in the exemption, nor will services such as alterations, tuxedo rentals, or dry cleaning. Retailers are prohibited from advertising that they will not collect sales tax on items that do not qualify but they may advertise that tax is included in the price of items which are not exempt. Those with questions about which items are included in the sales tax holiday or how to report sales from that period may call 1-800-252-5555 or visit http://www.window.state.tx.us for more information.
