Imagine if you could achieve all of this and more with a support group of like-minded professionals in just a matter of days. We created Advanced Sales and Use Tax Workshop to help you move from a capable practitioner to a true master in sales and use tax.
Advanced Sales and Use Tax Workshop is a seminar that involves an in-depth look at specific timely sales tax topics. Sessions are led by the top professionals in the industry that have specialized backgrounds in different areas of sales and use tax so that you get a wide range of viewpoints.
We encourage interactivity and lots of questions. PLUS, all attendees have the opportunity for one-on-one access to the faculty where they will help answer specific questions and situations. Furthermore, we never allow government auditors to attend our live courses, so you can safely discuss your situation without fear.
The Advanced Sales and Use Tax Workshop is a learning experience unlike any other opportunity out there. We help you see things in a new light and increase your level of expertise to help you achieve your career goals. And we succeed. Alumni of the Advanced Workshop report that what they learn at this event helps them position themselves for leadership roles, promotions, positions at different companies, snag bigger clients, and even leverage better pay.
Even without potential career accolades, this course will help you make faster decisions, improve your accuracy, and increase your ability to offer strategic sales tax recommendations.
The most unique part of Advanced is the size. We limit the number of participants so that everyone gets a chance to learn, discuss, and make meaningful connections with one another. You get the focused attention and guidance that you need to really stand out as an expert.
Advanced Workshop will help you rethink important sales and use tax topics and get up-to-date on legislative changes that are affecting your company and/or clients today. Attendees work together to unpack important sales tax issues through lecture time, case studies, and group discussions.
Each of these topics will be discussed in depth in an average of a 2 hour session to really understand the issues and help you develop practical strategies to apply in your business.
AI can speed up sales tax research, data analysis, and process documentation, but it also makes confident mistakes that take an experienced eye to catch.
In this session you’ll see where AI earns a place in your workflow and where your judgment still makes the call. You’ll see real examples: cleaning up data, automating manual tasks, reviewing contracts and supporting documents, and turning meeting conversations into documented procedures. We’ll also work through how to decide whether AI is the right tool for a task and how to design an agent of your own. You’ll head back to the office with specific uses to test right away and a clear picture of how peers are building AI into daily work.
A successful sales tax audit takes more than answering information requests. It depends on how you manage the auditor relationship, control the process, organize your data, and act on the results, including finding the overpayments that can offset an assessment.
You’ll compare techniques for working with different auditor personalities, handling remote and on-site examinations, addressing waiver issues, and keeping the audit moving through regular communication. The session also covers sampling, electronic data requests, and alternative documentation, plus strategies for reviewing findings, resolving assessments, and weighing appeal options. Because government auditors are never allowed in our classrooms, you can bring the details of a live audit into the discussion. The goal: you stay in control from the first request to the final decision.
When a service provider uses software to do the work, is the sale still a service, or has it become SaaS or a digital good? Technology is blurring the lines among services, software, and digital goods, and states don’t all draw those lines in the same place.
With the 2027 changes in California and Colorado and recent cases in New York, understanding how states are interpreting this industry is critical. Does an accounting engagement become taxable software simply because the provider or customer uses technology? This session examines how states analyze these transactions, where classification commonly goes wrong, and how the facts and circumstances of a sale affect taxability. You’ll also review what buyers and sellers should consider when drafting contracts, marketing materials, invoices, and product descriptions for digital goods and technology-enabled services. You’ll be ready to put your intended tax position in writing before an auditor has a chance to question it.
Sourcing rules decide which jurisdiction can tax a transaction, and those rules vary by state and often differ between sales tax and income tax.
Contract terms, delivery conditions, and even customer type can change the outcome. What happens when you ship products to an intermediary such as a finisher, distributor, freight forwarder, or export agent? This session works through common and complex sourcing scenarios, pinpoints where sales tax and income tax treatment diverge, and flags the patterns that tend to create audit risk. When your income tax team sources a sale one way and your sales tax return sources it another, you’ll know whether that’s correct or a red flag. Expect a working framework you can apply to your next sourcing question and use to defend the position you take.
Implementing a sales tax automation solution is the start of the project, not the finish. Changes in your business operations, tax law, and the tax engine itself can open gaps that raise compliance risk.
E-commerce growth, new sales channels, marketplace activity, and a shifting customer footprint all affect how tax is calculated and reported. This session covers how to evaluate nexus changes at the state, local, and global level, check product mapping accuracy, and catch issues caused by new products, services, or tax content updates. You’ll also learn how to test whether your tax engine returns the results you expect, for the right reason, and where errors most often surface. No product demo: the approach works regardless of what solution you use. Walk away with a repeatable health check you can run on your own system, so your tax engine keeps pace with your business.
Indirect tax exposure can erode deal value, whether your company is pursuing acquisitions or preparing for investment.
This session walks through the records, data, and compliance areas reviewed in sales tax due diligence, and how priorities differ for buyers and sellers. You’ll learn to identify and evaluate sales tax exposures, find ways to reduce or remediate liabilities, and make the case for indirect tax as a standard part of every transaction. From there, the focus shifts to post-merger integration, including legal entity changes and aligning operations and compliance. By the end, you’ll know how to bring indirect tax into the deal conversation early, while it can still shape the terms, and how to become the indirect tax voice leadership calls when the next deal comes up.
Bring the question you’ve been carrying alone. Submit it in advance, and the faculty will work through your real-world challenges, complex scenarios, and lingering gray areas, with experienced practitioners weighing in on the same issue from different angles.
If time allows, ask questions live too. No government auditors are in the room, so you can share the real details. Come for practical guidance, a second opinion, or the satisfaction of finally stumping the faculty. Want this kind of second opinion year-round?
