More About "Sales Tax Challenges with Services" On-Demand Webinar

“It’s a service! No taxes!” Think again.

Believing that services are not taxable is one of the most pervasive sales tax myths out there.

While it is true that many services are not taxed in many states, services subject to sales tax are much more common than you think. It can change by state and, if you cross state lines, you could be on the hook for sales tax of services in state’s that aren’t your headquarters. A few examples of services taxed in some situations are:

  • SaaS
  • Security services
  • Marketing
  • Health care
  • Photography
  • Architecture
  • Telecommunications
  • Remodeling

And the list goes on.

Your taxability may even be affected by how you’re drafting contracts or wording your invoices. The presentation of your work or itemization of your bills will impact how a state views something as taxable. All of this can feel a bit like a black box of confusion, but one thing is clear – no one should assume that their services aren’t taxable.

This on-demand webinar sheds light on taxation of services. It shows you the ways that services are taxed and where so that you know where you stand.

You will also learn how to conduct internal audits to make sure you are limiting your exposure to taxability as much as possible. We teach you our “true object test” that can help you determine taxation. That paired with several real-life examples of cases where services are taxed, you will understand the ins and outs of sales tax services and be able to apply changes to how you are doing things if necessary.

This is a 90-minute on-demand webinar taught by sales tax expert Diane Yetter of the Sales Tax Institute.

Stop wondering if services are subject to sales tax today.

Specifically the webinar will teach you:

  • What types of services are most commonly taxed, where, and in what situations.
  • To determine if you have tangible or real property services that are taxed.
  • Which states tax common business services, like marketing or human resources.
  • How personal services like dry-cleaning, photography, and beauty shops could easily be taxed in certain states and/or situations.
  • Our true object test that we use with private clients to help determine (or mitigate) taxation of services.
  • Specific invoicing presentation guidelines to help you avoid common wordings that often create taxation liability.
  • Case studies and recent updates on service taxation across the country to provide important real-life context.

The course is approximately 90 minutes long and is not eligible for CPE credit.
