Are you tired of reacting to ever-changing state tax laws instead of influencing them?
Tax policy doesn’t just set rates—it directs economic behavior, impacts your company’s bottom line, and reflects shifting social priorities. But most tax professionals only see its effects, not the opportunities to shape it.
Join the Sales Tax Institute and special guest Deborah Bierbaum of MultiState Associates for a powerful, insight-packed webinar that pulls back the curtain on how state and local tax policies are made—and how you can have a say in the process.
From understanding which states rely most on income tax to uncovering the hidden trade-offs behind sales tax holidays and excise taxes, this session offers practical insights into the evolving tax landscape. We will also cover emerging trends, and the revenue challenges states face in a shifting economy.
If you or your business has been frustrated with how state tax policy impacts your operations, this session will provide insight as to how to get involved and help shape the laws that your business is required to comply with.
Who should attend?
This session is perfect for tax professionals and consultants, finance and compliance leaders, policy analysts and strategists, business owners operating across multiple states, and anyone who wants to understand how tax decisions ripple through markets, companies, and communities.
Understanding tax policy goes beyond knowing the rates. It is about seeing how states balance the need for revenue with the desire to limit taxpayer burdens. In today’s economic climate, states are re-evaluating their tax strategies, weighing the benefits and trade-offs of income tax, sales tax, property tax, excise taxes, and changes in how taxes apply to new technologies.
This session will cover the impact of tax policies on businesses through compliance burdens, nexus obligations, and shifting tax rules. With a number of multi-state organizations tackling different issues, it is more important than ever that legislators and tax administrators hear from the business community. We’ll share what topics are being addressed and how to get involved. We will also explore how consumers respond to sales taxes, from increased prices to changes in spending patterns, and how these taxes shape social outcomes, especially for low-income households.
Expect an up-to-date review of recent tax proposals and legislative initiatives as well as, the latest trends in taxing the digital economy, including AI, social media, advertising, and data.
You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the strategic levers behind tax law, what’s coming next in the tax landscape, and how to move from passive compliance to active influence.
