Amanda Cusack
Amanda is the Manager of Indirect Tax at Maui Jim, Inc. Starting out as an Accounting Intern during college, she has grown up and flourished at her company. Amanda has found room to grow at Maui Jim by creating her last two positions. Her passion for sales tax has evolved over the years, and she now finds herself enjoying educating and mentoring others as well as exploring the technology side of tax. Recently, she has come into her own by stepping up and doing special projects and analysis as a leader. In the future, she looks forward to opportunities to speak or serve others with her sales tax expertise.
Amanda’s inner sales tax nerd shows around the office with her sales tax nerd merchandise displayed proudly, but more importantly Amanda is a sales tax nerd because of her passion for all sharing about it with others.
Kim Harper
Kim is the Sales and Use Tax Director at Promo Only, Inc. She dove into sales tax with only two weeks of training, and she has been a natural from the start. The challenge of the sales tax industry excites her and motivates her to look for sales tax implications in every aspect of her company. She would love the opportunity to get involved with leaders in sales tax outside of her company to keep learning and build a community around what she loves.
Kim’s friends have considered her a sales tax nerd for years because she drives them crazy talking about it all the time. She takes as much time out of her day as she can to research and learn everything!
Mary King
Mary is the Sales Tax Manager at Poly Tex, Inc. She never thought she’d end up in the sales tax field, in fact she thought she hated taxes! But once she was thrown into it, she quickly became a full-fledged sales tax nerd. Mary is a lifelong learner and has found recently that she enjoys being on the teaching side of things as well. In her most recent job, she even implemented an all-new sales tax system. Even though she’s only been in sales tax for a couple years, she’s looking forward to finding out more about others’ experience in the field outside of her own company.
Mary is a sales tax nerd because she is always hungry for more, whether that’s learning new software, taking new courses, or talking to fellow sales tax pros.
Laurel Rice
Laurel is the Senior Tax Accountant at Casella Waste Systems, Inc where she manages sales tax administration and maintains sales tax software. As someone who likes to take time to do things thoroughly, Laurel is a natural sales tax pro. She loves that it’s ever evolving and is ready to take on any challenge as her company is changes and grows through acquisitions, new products, and service types. She finds the utmost satisfaction in finding the exact right amount of tax, limiting exposure, and serving as the respected sales tax “guru” in her company.
The sales tax nerd in Laurel shines through as she leads her growing team with passion and motivation. Laurel is excited to become a mentor for newer sales tax pros in the near future.
Nancy Steele
Nancy is the Sales Tax Coordinator at Mountain Rose Herbs. After spending much of her career in customer service, a new position was created just for her in the accounting department to manage the company’s growing sales tax obligations. Despite having zero experience in sales tax, she whole heartedly embraced the challenge. Her organizational skills, zest for learning, and keen attention to detail have made her exceptionally well-suited for the work. Today, Nancy is an exemption certificate whiz who keeps her company’s processes and automation in tip top shape.
Nancy says it’s in her nature to be a nerd. If she’s interested in something, she goes all in and learns all she can. She loves the complex and ever-changing landscape of sales and use tax that allows her to always be learning.
